IT Center

Introduction

The I.T. Center of the Royal University of Phnom Penh is dedicated to support sustainable economic growth by building capacity in the field of Information Technology in Cambodia. The I.T. Center also seeks to become a center of research excellence in Cambodia by fostering, supporting and promoting scientific research.

Mission

The I.T. Center of RUPP seeks to develop the university’s capacity for high quality research, training and consultancy in the fields of computer science, electronics, applied physics, applied mathematics, applied chemistry and applied biology. We aim to be the core center for researching and studying in robotics in Cambodia within the next few years. Last but not least, we are eager to promote the study of engineering in RUPP.

Research

  1. System Support for Mobile and Distributed Multimedia Computing

This project seeks to develop Mobile and Distributed Multimedia Computing as an area of research in Cambodia and a topic to be taught at RUPP to students of the Master in Information Technology course. The I.T. Center collaborates with outside researchers in this field, in particular with Prof.Dr. Alexander Schill of the Technische Universitat of Dresden in Germany, a leading figure in this research field.

Within this field, the I.T Center focuses on distributed systems and mobile computing. This will comprise of advanced service-oriented architectures, infrastructure for mobile and ubiquitous information processing, and quality of service support for multimedia applications. With Prof.Dr. Alexander Schill, the I.T. Center will also work on the negotiation of quality of service requirements of distributed multimedia applications between different communication partners.

The I.T. Center is also developing a new course or a series of courses teaching Mobile and Distributed Multimedia Computing for the Master of Science (Information Technology) course at RUPP. The I.T. Center will also train RUPP faculty in Mobile and Distributed Multimedia Computing, thus ensuring the sustainability of this course.

  2. Software engineering: Preparing for Offshore Outsourcing Software Development.
This initiative seeks to involve Cambodia in the development of offshore software outsourcing. This will comprise a study of the qualification requirements for offshore outsourcing software development, and of preparing RUPP students for participation within this competitive development environment.

Shortcourse

In accordance with its mission, the I.T. Center offers short courses addressing current skills shortages in Cambodia. These courses are available to graduated RUPP students who wish to improve their computer literacy, and to members of the general public who wish to improve their employability by enhancing their computer skills.

Courses are offered in the following areas:

  • C&P (Thursday, Saturday) in Evening
  • C&P (Saturday, Sunday) in Afternoon
  • Big Data

To address these topics, the I.T. Center teaches the following IT related short courses:

C&P (Thursday, Saturday) in Evening
Duration: 90 Hours

Instructor: Mr. Khiev Sopheaktra, Mr. Toem Theara

This course trains students in I.T., Computer Science or related field who inspired to learn basic programming using Python programming language. Upon completion of this course, students will be able to understand the concept of programming such as Data Structure and Algorithms, OOP Concept and implementing the project at the end of the course. This shift is from 5:30PM to 8:30PM on Thursday and Saturday.

C&P (Saturday, Sunday) in Afternoon
Duration: 90 Hours

Instructor: Mr. Chea Samnang, Mr. Soeurn Mony

This course trains students in I.T., Computer Science or related field who inspired to learn basic programming using Python programming language. Upon completion of this course, students will be able to understand the concept of programming such as Data Structure and Algorithms, OOP Concept and implementing the project at the end of the course. This shift is from 2:00PM to 5:00PM on Saturday and Sunday.

Big Data
Duration: 90 Hours

Instructor: Mr. Pheng Oussaphea, Mr. Meng Hann

Python is data science programming used in many sciences and research projects. After finishing C&P course, students with high qualification will be selected to learn Big Data course which is a new course with high job opportunity in modern technology era.

Objectives

  • To promote research skills in advanced mobile computing, embedded systems design, embedded robotics, mobile robot designs andapplications, on-chip systems, software engineering and application of software in embedded systems, system modeling, ad-hoc networks, and research fields relevant to the courses conducted in all RUPP departments.
