The Rector

"The Royal University of Phnom Penh (RUPP) stands as Cambodia’s oldest and largest public university, widely recognized as the flagship institution for higher education in the nation."

At the core of RUPP’s mission is Teaching and Learning. The university offers high-quality education across a diverse array of disciplines, equipping graduates to be both academically proficient and socially responsible. Its programs prioritize critical thinking, problem-solving, and adaptability—skills that are vital for navigating the challenges of a rapidly evolving society. By fostering these attributes, RUPP guarantees that its graduates are not only employable but also capable of making meaningful contributions to the development of Cambodia.

Research and Innovation constitute the second pillar of RUPP’s mission. As a center for intellectual exploration, the university promotes research that tackles national challenges while also contributing to global knowledge. Its initiatives cover a wide range of fields, from environmental studies to technological advancements, with the goal of producing solutions that are relevant locally yet significant on an international scale. This dual focus enhances Cambodia’s ability to address urgent issues while establishing RUPP as a participant in global academic discussions.

Social Engagement rounds out the triad of RUPP’s mission. The university actively collaborates with communities to promote equity, sustainability, and the preservation of culture. Through outreach initiatives, partnerships, and service-learning opportunities, RUPP fortifies the connection between academia and society. This dedication ensures that education transcends the confines of the classroom, extending into communities and reinforcing the role of higher education as a catalyst for social advancement.

RUPP works closely with the Royal Government and industries to align its academic and research priorities with national development strategies. This cooperation ensures that graduates are equipped with practical skills and that research supports Cambodia’s socio-economic growth. By tailoring curricula to labor market needs, RUPP enhances employability and ensures relevance in a rapidly evolving economy. This model strengthens the link between education and national development, making RUPP a key partner in Cambodia’s progress.

Equally significant is RUPP’s dedication to internationalization. The university actively engages on a global scale by forming partnerships with universities and research institutions around the world. Internationalization enhances teaching and research through faculty exchanges, collaborative projects, and scholarship opportunities. It also provides students with exposure to a variety of perspectives, equipping them to succeed in a globalized economy while aiding Cambodia’s integration into the ASEAN and international academic communities. This global perspective bolsters RUPP’s academic excellence and empowers students to emerge as leaders in both local and international contexts.
